[Nearly]

I can't believe I leave for Japan tomorrow. I guess I'll define Tokyo-Yokohama as my new 'home', and therefore this travel section will document any excursions outside of that urban area.

I'm obviously trying to make this column as obscure as possible. I've often wondered whether there's any real need for a separate travel section, but it is kind of nice to group it all together, and I certainly don't have the time to be changing around my site structure at the moment... I'm supposed to be packing.

Actually, on the packing front, I'm far more organised than I would be for a typical jaunt. Probably because I'm faced with the spectre of moving, as opposed to visiting.

Well, to Japan then...

Well the buying of Japanese yen is not quite as straightforward as I thought, because the exchange rates on offer (and commission fees) vary wildly from exchange place to exchange place. I'm never one to shop around, but I'm glad I did this time, because I've discovered a bureau in the city that offers at least 5 more yen per dollar than the others, plus has no commission fees. Like, as if you wouldn't use that one.

Unfortunately I'll have to get my travellers cheques from ripoff land.
