[Home for a few weeks]posted by pete at 21:24I love Melbourne so much! Today I flew back to Adelaide, and I also booked a one way ticket back for April 5. So there we go; wheels in motion, so to speak.
The remainder of my trip there was fun-filled and stimulating, but due to incredible tiredness levels I cannot think of anything particularly illuminating to write here. There was simply a lot of food, coffee and time spent with friends. Brunswick St and Chapel St both proved good haunts, as did some of the tiny alleys near Collins St with the mini food stalls. I love them. I'm becoming very excited at the prospect of living there!

[Melbourne]posted by pete at 11:13Since I'll be living in this city in about 8 weeks, I thought I'd better grab my last opportunity to write about it in a 'travel' context. I'm in a very busy Internet geek shop just off Chapel St, around the corner from the place where I'm staying, and where I'll initially be living. It's just the cutest house (a single-fronted cottage) in a wonderful location, which probably won't encourage much in the way of saving.
I've spent many pleasant times with the likes of Kate, Brooke and Jess, food has been involved (of course), a fair bit of beer has been consumed and the odd bit of site-seeing has occurred. I'm not sure what they had in mind when they made Federation Square; I don't mind the architecture itself, but I object to the colour of the pavings (a bit of a desert sand theme going on, hopefully they'll dull under exposure to rain and pollution). Also, it's like a maze of doors, and it is very unclear as to how to get around in the building, not to mention getting out. We encountered all manner of dead ends and barricades. Still, perhaps that was what they intended, and if so, far be it from me to care.
Interestingly, the Chinese New Year celebrations in Southgate were more interesting and fun than the equivalent festivities in Hong Kong. I think that's probably because all the shops were open. HK was a tad boring during the New Year period.
I think I'll check out the Dali exhibition this afternoon, before meeting up with Sally.
